Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m 66 and live in Wittering close to the sea, we are quite a beachy family. I have two kids and a grandson and sometimes come to yoga with my future daughter-in-law, Emma.
I was actually born in St. Richards Hospital so am very local but have also lived abroad and travelled about quite a lot.

What led you to sign up to a class?

When I turned 65 I felt I had to do something to get fitter so persuaded my husband to go on a yoga and pilates retreat with me as I had gone to pilates classes off and on for some years. Mind you, it was in Fuerteventura so he didn’t object too much. I enjoyed the yoga sessions more than the pilates and when we returned someone told me about Lano. I signed up for the Introductory offer and I’ve been coming for 15 months now.

How did you find your first yoga class?

Hard!!!

What effect has practising yoga had on your life?

I certainly feel so much fitter and have lost 35lb. I’m also hoping that one day I might be able to balance on one leg. That is my goal.

Apart from yoga, do you have other ways of keeping healthy?

I went out in my kayak three times last year but being retired most of my life is spent just pottering about.

What keeps you coming back to LANO?

I like the fact that there are different types of yoga to come to and the timetable means there’s usually something each day that suits me. Obviously though, the main things are the lovely friendly atmosphere and excellent teachers.

What single piece of advice would you share with a newcomer to yoga? Don’t worry if you can’t do most of it at the beginning.

Even I, an OAP, have improved a little.
